Even the long-lasting don’t last forever. Plants on the verge of blooming September 8th, at the two-month mark—today is November 5th—many are turning to seed. The photo above represents a midpoint for all the mistflowers in our yard. Some early bloomers have gone mostly to seed. Fear not! Those plants in a more shaded location (below) bloom lustily still! Interestingly (to me), no mistflower has ever sprouted in our back yard, despite completely taking over the front as soon as we removed the lawn. However, a few mistflowers appeared outside of our backyard in a municipal right-of-way in back where the primary plant (approximately 90% or more of all growth) is Japanese stilt grass. Stilt grass is invasive, as evidenced by the name.
