one of my many pet peeves

if you’re going to post poetry as if you’re a poet, for God’s sake, learn the damn language! It’s pretty easy to do that and still write bad poetry, but it’s impossible for you to write good poetry without a basic understanding of grammar, usage, and mechanics.

  1. and for what’s it worth, I purposefully didn’t capitalize the first letter of the sentence. you don’t deserve that much respect.

  2. Sure hope my poems didn’t elicit this post 🙂 I’ve noticed that people who make the biggest claims about their skills are lacking everything but confidence. I don’t know where that comes from. It baffles me.

  3. BTW, there’s nothing wrong with violating every rule in the book regarding grammar, usage, and mechanics, but you’ve got to *know* you’re breaking the rules and which ones. Otherwise you’re just stupid. You might be lucky stupid (which is better than “just plain” stupid, but stupid is as stupid does. I guess it’s time to articulate my views on GUM, why I get to claim some high ground, and why things appear the way they do.
